WHEELING, IL — Friends of a Wheeling woman, who died last week at the hands of her boyfriend in a murder-suicide, are raising money for her daughters. Marisa Dister, 46, was tragically shot on April 11 at a home she shared with her boyfriend, Russell O'Connor, who later turned the gun on himself, according to police.

Now, her friends are seeking some financial help for Dister's daughters, Haley and Ella, and have started a GoFundMe campaign. As of Thursday afternoon, they have raised over $14,000 toward a $20,000 goal.

"Marisa was a kind, funny, beautiful mother who became the victim of a violent crime," the campaign, which was started earlier this week, reads. "May her death not be in vain, and join us in spreading domestic violence awareness. #MarisasMemory"
