‘Heretics & Heroes’ at Vernon Area Public Library: Historian Thomas Cahill discusses new book on the continuing influence of the Renaissance

New York Times bestselling author and renowned historian Thomas Cahill visits the Vernon Area Public Library on Wednesday, November 6, at 1 p.m. Cahill is best known for his Hinges of History series, in which he recounts the formative moments in Western civilization into an accessible, illuminating and entertaining narrative.

 

His latest book, “Heretics and Heroes: How Renaissance Artists and Reformation Priests Created Our World,” guides readers through the thrilling period of Renaissance and Reformation (late fourteenth to early seventeenth centuries), a time so full of innovation and cultural change that the Western world would not experience anything similar until the twentieth century. This book is Volume VI to the acclaimed Hinges of History series.

Cahill's appealing approach to distant history has won the attention of millions of readers in North America and beyond. In The Hinges of History series, Cahill retells the story of the Western world through little-known stories of individuals who had pivotal impacts on history and contributed immensely to Western culture and the evolution of Western sensibility.
