The fire closed down Sandhurst Drive, between Thompson Boulevard and Longridge Court. The Village of Buffalo Grove asked residents to avoid the area with police and fire officials on the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters noted fire and heavy smoke from the rear roof of the structure which extended through the front of the roof due to limited access into the attic. The fire was elevated to a Box Alarm at 1:13 p.m. due to the extreme temperatures outside, according to fire officials. The fire was later elevated to a second level Box Alarm. More than 20 area fire departments responded to assist.
