Sente Participating in Shoe Recycling Project; Announces Shoe Collection Drive

State Representative Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, will be partnering with the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) to provide constituents with a convenient and environmentally conscious way to recycle new or used footwear.

“As Vice-Chair of the House Environment Committee and an avid recycler, I was amazed to learn about this unique opportunity for constituents to responsibly dispose of unwanted shoes,” Sente said. “It only takes a few minutes to do some spring cleaning while browsing through one’s wardrobe and in doing so, helping those less fortunate.”

Residents are encouraged to donate new or used shoes of all sizes, brands, and conditions. All shoes collected during Sente’s shoe drive will be donated to the SWALCO Shoe Recycling Project, where they will be either reused, repurposed, or recycled depending on their condition. Shoes can be dropped off at Sente’s full-time constituent service office, located at 430 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Lincolnshire, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

“Through technological advancements and a little creativity, more and more items are becoming recyclable every day - it has become much more than just cardboard boxes and soda cans,” Sente said. “The challenge however, is getting the word out to members of our community so they can begin taking advantage of these innovative new methods of recycling.”

For more information, or to arrange for a pickup or drop off, please call Sente’s full-time constituent service office at (847) 478-9909, or email RepSente@gmail.com.
