Solo Tennis Player Forced Off Court; Business Egged: Blotter

A group of tennis players cited fake rules for kicking a single player off the court; a business was egged again: Buffalo Grove Blotter.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

VIOLATION OF AN ORDER OF PROTECTION

Priya Ranjan Mohapatra, 45, of Buffalo Grove, is accused of two counts of violating an order of protection, and was arrested at 4:45 p.m. July 26 in Buffalo Grove. He was scheduled to appear in court on July 27.

  • Alondra Esmeralda Valencia, 18, of the 0-100 block of N Wolf Road, Wheeling, is accused of driving on a suspended/revoked driver's license, speeding over the statutory limit (52 mph in a 35 mph zone), and was arrested at 12:29 a.m. July 30 at Half Day Road and Palazzo Drive. She was given a $2,500 bond and court date of Sept. 18 in Mundelein.
  • Geovany Figueroa-Flores, 27, of the 800 block of Westmoreland Drive, Vernon Hills, is accused of driving with a suspended/revoked driver's license, operating an uninsured vehicle, speeding over the statutory limit (65 mph in a 45 mph zone), and was arrested at 12:15 a.m. July 31 at Fremont Way and Heritage Place. He was given a $2,500 bond and a court date of Sept. 11 in Mundelein.
  • Fabian Placensia, 19, of the 600 block of Piper Lane, Prospect Heights, is accused of driving on a suspended/revoked license, unlawful use of auxiliary lamps, and was arrested at 12:19 a.m. July 28 at Dundee and Buffalo Grove roads. He was given a $2,500 bond and a court date of Aug. 21 in Mundelein.
  • Ashley L. Brnak, 36, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, is accused of driving on a suspended/revoked license, failure to reduce speed/crash, damage to village property, and was arrested at 2:05 p.m. July 28 at Busch Parkway and Corporate Grove. She was given a $1,500 bond and court date of Aug. 14 in Mundelein.
  • Theresa D. Martinez, 50l of the 1300 block of Chestnut Drive, Round Lake, is accused of driving on a suspended/revoked driver's license, operating an uninsured vehicle, driving with no muffler, and was arrested at 6:11 p.m. July 24 on Corporate Grove Drive. She was given a $3,000 bond a court date of Aug. 21 in Mundelein.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL

Daryl C. Edwards, 53, of the 3800 block of Jackson Street, Bellwood, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol (blood alcohol content greater than .08), illegal lane usage, and was arrested at 1:46 a.m. July 26 at Half Day and Willow roads. He was given a $3,000 bond and a court date of Aug. 19 in Waukegan.

UNLICENSED DRIVER

Jakelina R. Bravo, 38, of the 1100 block of Franklin Lane, Buffalo Grove, is accused of being an unlicensed driver, operating an uninsured vehicle, improper backing, and was arrested at 5:54 p.m. July 27 at Frankln and Fairfax. She was given a $2,500 bond and a court date of Aug. 21 in Mundelein.

INCIDENTS

NEIGHBORHOOD TROUBLE

A resident in the 1000 block of Pine Tree Circle North reported at 1:17 p.m. July 27 they believe their neighbor is dumping an unknown liquid and allowing their dog to pee onto the resident's patio, flowers and vegetables. The resident believes it happens every time it rains so it blends in. The resident called the homeowner association, and they are sending the neighbor a violation notice.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

A property in the 900 block of W Dundee Road was observed by police at 7:09 p.m. July 30 to have three freshly broken windows on the northwest corner of the empty building. Two of the windows had one pane of glass broken, while the third has both panes shattered. During the investigation, it was discovered several indoor windows were also shattered.

BURGLARY FROM A MOTOR VEHICLE

A person called police at 7:43 p.m. July 28 to report someone broke the rear window of their date's car and stolen her purse. The woman said they had parked the car at 7:15 p.m. and walked the path at Willow Stream Park. She said her driver's license, a credit car and $50 were inside of the purse.

IDENTITY THEFT

An Avalon Drive resident reported at 2:20 p.m. July 27 an unknown person used their identity to purchase more than $4,000 in surveillance equipment at a store in St. Louis. The resident was informed of the incident when they found out their credit score had been lowered.

DISPUTE NON-SPECIFIC

A resident was playing tennis by themselves at 6:28 p.m. July 29 when another person came to the court and asked the resident to leave because they had more of a right to the court having three other players ready to play at Woodland Park, 2500 N Buffalo Grove Road. The person cited Buffalo Grove Park District rules that two players had the right to ask a single player to leave the court. Police looked for the rules cited on the district's website and didn't find it. They let the resident know that there are no such rules. Police also let the resident know that they were not in violation and had the right to be on the court. The resident was told to call 911 if intimated to get off the court again.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO A VEHICLE

A resident in the 400 block of Estate Drive reported at 10:31 a.m. July 24 that the windshield to their vehicle had been smashed. They had heard a loud noise that sounded like someone hitting the garage at 11 p.m. the prior night but didn't look outside.

VANDALISM

The owner of a business in the 100 block of W Dundee Road called police at 10:06 a.m. July 28 to report an egging during the overnight hours. The owner believes the incident may be related to an occurrence several months prior where a dog ran out of the business and was struck on Dundee. The dog's owner made veiled threats and said they would be "taking the matter in my own hands." The owner said they have had black flex seal sprayed on the door and multiple egg-related incidents.
