State Report Card 2023: Find Out How Buffalo Grove Schools Fared

The Illinois State Board of Education released its annual report on Monday.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Is your school district making the grade? Annually, the Illinois State Board of Education releases a report that summarizes how the state, districts and individual schools are doing in a variety of areas.

On Monday, ISBE updates the report for schools and districts across the state. Academic performance, school environment, along with information about educators and students are included in the report.

"The Report Card offers a complete picture of student and school performance in order to inform and empower families and communities as they support their local schools," ISBE said on its website regarding Monday's release.

In Buffalo Grove, Aptakisic-Tripp School District 102, Kildeer Countryside School District 96 and Township High School District 214 (Arlington Heights) were all graded. Here's a glance of how each fared:

Aptakisic-Tripp School District 102

  • No. of schools — 4 (Aptakisic Junior High, Earl Pritchett, Meridan, Tripp)
  • All 4 received a commendable designation (second-highest rating)
  • 61 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in English Language Arts, compared to 35 percent in the state
  • 61 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in Math, compared to 27 percent in the state
  • 79 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in Science, compared to 51 percent in the state
  • 99 percent participation rate with testing
  • 96 percent teacher retention rate in district
  • $17,577 spending per student, down 0.14 percent compared to 2022

Kildeer Countryside School District 96

  • No. of schools — 7 (Twin Groves Middle, Woodlawn Middle, Country Meadows Elementary, Ivy Hall Elementary, Kildeer Countryside Elementary, Prairie Elementary, Willow Grove Early Learning Center)
  • 2 received an exemplary designation (highest rating) — Country Meadows, Kildeer Countryside
  • 4 received a commendable designation (second-highest rating) — Twin Groves, Woodlawn, Prairie Elementary, Ivy Hall) Editor's Note: Willow Grove did not receive a rating
  • 61 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in English Language Arts, compared to 35 percent in the state
  • 62 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in Math, compared to 27 percent in the state
  • 81 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in Science, compared to 51 percent in the state
  • 86 percent teacher retention rate in district
  • $19,389 spending per student, up 11.67 percent compared to 2022

"Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96 aligns its financial resources to its educational goals each year to ensure a consistent, guaranteed, and viable curriculum across its school’s EC/K to 8th grade," the district said in a statement on the ISBE website. "In Fiscal Year 2023, District 96 was funded at the 90% level from local funds, 9% from the state of Illinois allocations, and less than 1% from the Federal Government through Title Grants or Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA). State and Federal dollars are allocated centrally throughout the District, impacting all students unless reserved for a specific site. Willow Grove Early Childhood Center, Ivy Hall Elementary School, and Country Meadows Elementary receive their assigned Federal dollars based upon their designation as a Title I school or their qualified expenditures offset by IDEA funding. The District is proud of its stewardship of local resources and the alignment of those resources to ensure high levels of growth and achievement in academics and social-emotional development for ALL students."

Township High School District 214

  • No. of schools — 6 (Buffalo Grove High, Elk Grove High, John Hersey High, Prospect High, Rolling Meadows, Wheeling)
  • 2 received an exemplary designation (highest rating) — John Hersey, Prospect
  • 4 received a commendable designation (second-highest rating) — Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove, Rolling Meadows, Wheeling
  • 92 percent graduation rate compared to 88 percent in state
  • 28 percent chronic absenteeism, compared to 28 percent in state
  • 96 percent teacher retention rate in district, compared to 90 percent in state
  • $22,479 spending per student, up 0.67 percent compared to 2022
