Wheeling HS Student Named Northern Illinois District Student of the Year and Academic All American for National Forensic League

            Wheeling High School senior Michael Onyszczak is this year’s Northern Illinois District Student of the Year for the National Forensic League. He was selected for his outstanding accomplishments in speech, debate, leadership, and service. 

            Onyszczak also has earned the status of Academic All American. He received this honor by earning a Superior Distinction degree (750 points), having a grade point average of at least 3.7, receiving at least a 27 on the ACT, and demonstrating outstanding character and leadership during his high school career. Over his public speaking career, Onyszczak has earned well over 1,000 points.

            “Mike is an extremely dedicated and deserving student,” said Jessica Maciejewski, WHS speech coach. “He is one of those people who takes the lead and consistently works hard to improve. His positive attitude, willingness to take risks, and ability to self-reflect is what makes him successful.”

            Onysczk is now a contender for the National Forensic League Student of the Year honors. He is competing at the national competition in June.
