The stabbing happened at an apartment in Buffalo Grove early Saturday, police said.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL - A 25-year-old Buffalo Grove woman faces an attempted murder charge after she allegedly stabbed her male roommate in the head and neck during an argument early Saturday, police said.

Nancy Balladares, of the 800 block of Trace Drive in Buffalo Grove, has also been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon following the stabbing at about 3:30 a.m. at the apartment Balladares shared with a 32-year-old man she is accused of attacking, according to a Buffalo Grove Police Department press release.

Police were first called to the apartment building on Trace Drive at about 2 a.m. for reports of a domestic dispute where they met Balladares and her roommate outside. The 32-year-old male roommate "aided in the conciliation" at that time and "the situation was mediated," police said.

Then, at about 3:30 a.m., police officers were called back to the apartment for a report of a person who had been stabbed with a knife, according to a news release. Balladares was taken to a different hospital for treatment of minor wounds sustained during the incident.

Police learned during their investigation, the victim allegedly grew increasingly concerned about Balladares and her behavior after the initial call to police that morning. Police said the victim is believed to have told Balladares he planned on calling the police back to the residence at which time Balladares attacked him with a knife.

Balladares remained hospitalized as of Saturday night. She is expected to appear in bond court in Cook County following her release from the hospital.
