Burr Ridge Village Hall's Opening Delayed By 6 Months At Least

BURR RIDGE, IL – Burr Ridge officials originally planned to build a new Village Hall by next July.

The latest timetable shows it is expected to be finished as late as March 2028.

Over the summer, the village indicated a possible timeline change. In July, the village revealed it would award a contract in September, rather than August. Now, it's expected to be less than a week before Halloween.

On Monday, the Village Board voted for a $300,000 contract with Consertus of Oakbrook Terrace to manage the project.

Marc Rogers of Consertus told the board that the village's schedule was "aggressive."

"We've put that out to contractors to be aggressive on purpose," he said. "We don't want to prolong this thing. Obviously, trying to expedite it will contain costs."

After Rogers told the board about the need for Cook County approvals, Mayor Gary Grasso expressed worry.

"You said two words that caught my attention – Cook County," the mayor said. "A country club wanted to come into Burr Ridge in large part because they didn't want to deal with Cook County. Who can blame them?"

He said he wanted to make sure permitting wasn't held up.

Rogers said there was no guarantee, but he said his firm would stay on top of the process. (The project will be on the DuPage County side of County Line Road, but the stormwater flows to Cook County.)

"I'm available. The trustees are available to do anything we can to get through this permitting process, especially if you start seeing political problems that are arising," the mayor said.

In preparation for the project, Village Hall employees have been working out of the public works office on Commerce Street for the last few months. And the board has been meeting at Gower Middle School.

Last fall, the Goddard preschool chain agreed to buy the 40-year-old Village Hall for $2.7 million.

Goddard plans to enroll 120 to 180 children and employ 20 to 30 staff, according to village documents.

The new Village Hall will be attached to the next-door police station, which was built 16 years ago. Officials said their plan ensures the village offices will blend into the station, so that it doesn't look like an addition.

The new village offices are estimated to cost $7.5 million. The village said the project requires no debt.
