Neighbor Still Against Burr Ridge Area Truck Stop

"Stick trees" will do nothing to shield nearby homes from disturbances, the resident said.

BURR RIDGE, IL – A neighbor of a proposed truck stop next to Burr Ridge says she remains opposed to it.

Resident Lynda Esposito is asking the Village Board to stick with its resolution in June opposing the QuikTrip truck stop. It would be southwest of 91st Street and Kingery Highway (Route 83).

On Monday night, the board plans to consider withdrawing the resolution, given concessions that the company says it has made. A Change.org petition against the truck stop has collected nearly 2,500 signatures.

However, Esposito said that despite the concessions, the results will remain the same.

"It is an inappropriate area due to residential, educational and religious facilities surrounding the proposed truck fueling station," Esposito said in an email to Patch on Friday. "Noise pollution, light pollution, fueling fumes and traffic will continue to be an issue."

The company said it will add landscaping between the truck stop and nearby houses on Carrington Circle to the west.

But Esposito said this does not solve anything.

"The intent to cut down trees and shrubs that are hundreds of feet tall and replace them with stick trees does nothing to shield the townhomes from the above-mentioned disturbances," she said.

Esposito continued, "Rescinding the resolution just because QuikTrip said they will put shields on their pole lights and they have removed the car wash from the plans does nothing to make this proposed facility attractive to the community."

The board meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Village Hall.
