Seasonal Candle Thief Who Allegedly Threatened Employee Arrested In Burr Ridge: Cops

Andrew Payton, 39, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated robbery after he allegedly threatened the life of a Bath and Body Works manager.

BURR RIDGE, IL — Police have caught up with a man accused of threatening to kill a Bath and Body Works supervisor after stealing hundreds of dollars in seasonal candles. Andrew Payton, 39, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated retail theft in relation to an incident that took place at 550 Village Center Drive on Oct. 11.

Payton allegedly entered the Bath and Body Works store and filled two shopping bags with an assortment of seasonal candles totaled at more than $500. As he exited the store, Payton allegedly told the store manager he would kill her if she "took any action" after the theft, according to a police report.

Police say Payton did not display a weapon, but that he implied he had a weapon.

Eyewitness descriptions of Payton and the car he was driving led police to find him and take him into custody on Friday. He is currently being held at Burr Ridge Police Department as he awaits his bond hearing.
