• Thornton Fractional 215: $134K in damage reported at TF South following Aug. 11 storm (thelansingjournal.org) — Thornton Fractional South High School in Calumet City sustained about $134,000 in storm damage from the Aug. 11 severe weather, mostly to roofs, trees, and fencing, with insurance expected to cover key repairs. District 215 officials also outlined a nearly $90 million spending plan that adds staff, coaching, and student support positions, with a public budget hearing set for Sept. 22. 
• OSHA Hits Contractor With $265K Fine for Roof Fall Hazards (roofingcontractor.com) — A Calumet City construction company is facing $265,868 in proposed OSHA penalties after investigators say workers installed roof rafters and sheeting without proper fall protection, exposing them to 25-foot drops. Inspectors also cited repeat violations involving safety gear, ladders, and stairways. The employer now has 15 business days to comply, negotiate, or contest the findings.
