Local Lions Club Member Raises the Most Funds
District Governor John O'Brien praises Channahon and reminds us that anyone can be a Lion.

For years, you’ve seen him standing at the Speedway in Channahon on Route 6 twice a year in his yellow vest. Sometimes he is handing out mints or candy rolls, other days he’s there with suckers. As you see him, he bears a strong resemblance to a number of real and fictional and memorable characters. He could be one of the Smith Brothers from the cough drops or he could be one of the members of ZZ Top or even a long lost relative to Willie Nelson…but in reality it’s Lion Bob Waters of the Channahon Lions.
On June 28, Lion Bob, who is President of the local Lions, accepted an award from Lion District Governor John O’Brien (Minooka) and Lion Bill Keenan (Lemont) from the Lions of Illinois Foundation for 2010 Candy Day for the highest per capita donation to the Foundation. That is a huge coup for the Channahon Lions in that they are relatively small in numbers compared to some of the larger clubs in the state. The Channahon Lions have the citizens of Channahon to thank for that honor.
Over the years, the Lions have helped hundreds of children and adults in the community get much needed eyeglasses and hearing aids with the funds raised by Lions like Lion Bob. They even sponsor a local little league team in Channahon. Well, now those same Lions need your help to to get more team mates so that they can continue those efforts.
