Working Until the Cows Come Home
It's become a funny story that has spread throughout Channahon: a cow escapes his farm and heads to Three Rivers Elementary School.
The most popular joke at Three Rivers Elementary School in Channahon this week starts - why did the cow cross the road?
Instead of a punchline, though, the question elicits a story about a black cow that really did walk to school last week.
"I was in my office and I am very good at tuning things out and I went over to my window and I am still not noticing all the commotion," said Three Rivers Principal Susan Kavich. "I looked up and this huge cow is walking past my window and when it gets to my window it looks at me and keeps going."

Kavich's office is not just off the sidewalk, the cow had walked a long ways.
"I was just really confused; what did I just see? Kavich said. "It was just absolute confusion. So I then left my office to go out front and that's when I saw the cow out there."

When Kavich walked outside, she saw that police officials and farmers already were on the scene corralling the bovine.
"The kids are having a blast over it; they're still making jokes about it," Kavich said.
The school workers and students have made it a running joke to decorate Kavich's office with pictures of cows.
"There is a taped picture of cow on my window," she said.
Although Kavich isn't sure, she assumes the cow came from the Meade farm, which is not too far away off Tryon Street.
