2nd Amazon Go Store Opens In Chicago

The company has plans for a third store to open soon in the West Loop, according to a report.

CHICAGO — A second Amazon Go store has opened in Chicago at 144 S. Clark Street in the Loop. The new 1,200-square-foot store is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays.

Shoppers scan their phones to enter the store, and sensors track what they bring out of the store — or put back — and no cashiers are needed. People can buy convenience store staples such as candy, pre-made sandwiches and drinks at the new Go store.

A third location is set to open soon at 500 W. Madison Street in a 1,700-square-foot space attached to Ogilvie Transportation Center, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Chicago's first Amazon Go store opened last month at 113 S. Franklin near Willis Tower. It was the fourth location to open nationally.

While there are no cashiers in Amazon Go stores, a team of employees works to prepare food, stock shelves and help customers.

The tech giant promised "no lines, no checkout," however at peak times, some stores have been so popular that long lineups have formed.

Shoppers need an Amazon account, the free Amazon Go app and a recent-generation iPhone or Android phone to buy products at the stores.

Last month, Bloomberg reported that Amazon will consider opening 3,000 Go stores across the United States by 2021.
