Black Hawk Flying Around Chicago Was Just Training
Commandos fast-roped from helicopters to many Chicago rooftops this week, and some were worried, but they were just training.

CHICAGO, IL — That helicopter flying all over Chicago Tuesday and Wednesday was just some special operations commandos training, according to a report. Tyler Rogoway, with the Drive, said he was "bombarded" with questions about a helicopter dropping combat gear-clad onto building tops around the city.
The helicopter, a UH-60 Black Hawk like the one pictured above, was flying around the city, hovering above buildings while the commandos fast-roped onto the roofs. Rogoway said people were worried there may have been a crisis going on, others were worried they were filming another Transformers.
It's unclear which agency the commando team is with. Rogoway said such sightings in Chicago often the 160th Special Operations Air Regiment, or the Night Stalkers.

What's the deal with this Army helicopter all over Chicago the past two days? They dropped off two men with some gear on this roof before taking off. pic.twitter.com/DokLTO4SFU

Military helicopters are marked, however, and this one was not. Rogoway said Chicago police knew there would be training drills, but "didn't seem like they knew" whether the commandos were law enforcement or military.
Rogoway also said the helicopter's antennas were configured differently than those on Army helicopters, noting that plenty of Black Hawks have been transferred from the Department of Defense to other federal agencies, like the Department of Justice.

Rogoway guesses the team was a part of the Department of Justice's Critical Incident Response Group, which includes the FBI's elite Hostage Rescue Team.
While units like this have mock villages and towns for training, it's invaluable for these operators to train in real cities to have real-world experience dealing with complexities absent from training environments.
