Chicago Sets Record High Temp Friday

Temps soared into the 80s on Friday breaking a prior record of 79 degrees set for this date in 1939.

Today's warmth will go down in the record books.

As of early Friday afternoon, temps hit 82 degrees at Chicago O'Hare International Airport, breaking a prior record of 79 degrees set for this date back in 1939, according to the National Weather Service.

Temps soared into the 80s for much of the Chicago suburbs on Friday. Those temps are supposed to drop off sharply in the coming hours. At O'Hare, temps should be around 77 degrees at 5 p.m., 67 degrees at 6 p.m. and down to 55 degrees by 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph are expected across the Chicago area this afternoon with the highest gusts east of Interstate 55. Fog is possible near the lakefront tonight, some of which may be dense.

Scattered thunderstorms are also likely tonight but severe weather is not expected.

More storms are possible on Saturday and Sunday and high temps could reach into the mid- to upper-60s for portions of the Chicago area.
