Donald Trump's Inauguration: Chicago Protests, Marches Will Welcome New President
Find out what demonstrations and activities are planned Friday and Saturday to speak out against the incoming chief executive.

CHICAGO, IL — Like other cities around the country this weekend, Chicago will be the backdrop for demonstrations and rallies in protest of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration Friday in Washington, D.C.
Here's a look at some of the events and activities planned for Friday and Saturday:
Inauguration Day Strike Against Hate
- When: All day Friday, Jan. 20
- Where: Across the country
- What: Activists are encouraging Americans to go on strike from work and school, as well as to abstain from shopping for the entire day to "strike against hate," according to the movement's website.
Inauguration Day People's Assembly

- When: 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20
- Where: Grace Episcopal Church, 637 S. Dearborn St.
- What: United Working Families will hold workshops and other community-building activities before joining a joint protest at Trump Tower.
Inauguration Day Walkout and Rally at UIC
- When: 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20
- Where: The quad at University of Illinois at Chicago, 803 S. Morgan St.
- What: Organizers are asking UIC students to walk out of class and gather at the campus' quad in a demonstration to "oppose Trump's racism, bigotry, sexism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, and hate!" according to the rally's Facebook page. The walkout and rally are student-led events, and the university is not affiliated with them.
"Resist Trump: Occupy Inauguration Chicago"
- When: 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20
- Where: Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington St.
- What: Organized by Chicago Socialist Alternative and the Chicago Movement for the 99%, this rally is described as "a shot across the bow" against the incoming president's proposed agenda and policies.

Trump Tower Inauguration Day Protest
- When: 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, Jan. 20
- Where: Trump International Hotel and Tower, 401 N. Wabash Ave.
- What: Trump Tower has been the site for previous protests before and after the election. Described on its planning page as "a peaceful, non-violent demonstration showing discontent toward the rhetoric that won the president elect the election and continues to empower similar rhetoric and skewed thinking within groups of hateful people," this event will bring together the participants of early activities.
Women's March on Chicago
- When: Saturday, Jan. 21. Marchers can begin arriving at 8:30 a.m., and live music will begin at 9:30 a.m. There will be a rally at 10 a.m. before the march begins at 11:30 a.m.
- Where: The rally and starting point is at Grant Park at Columbus Drive. The march will go west from Columbs and Jackson Boulevard to Federal Plaza on South Dearborn Street.
- What: Held the day after the inauguration, the Chicago march is one of more than 250 "Sister Marches" connected to the Women's March on Washington, D.C. Around 50,000 to 60,000 people are expected to participate in this event, which is designed to shighlight women's issues, as well as speak out against Trump's past comments and presidential agenda.
