Evanston Bank Robbery: Suspect Charged

27-year-old Rashiem Holloway of Chicago charged with Saturday bank robbery of Southpoint Plaza Chase Bank

EVANSTON, IL — 27-year-old Rashiem Malik Holloway, of Chicago, has been charged in the Saturday attempted robbery of the Chase Bank at 635 Chicago Avenue in Evanston, according to the F.B.I.

Holloway entered the bank Saturday afternoon acting suspiciously, wearing a hooded jacket pulled tightly around his face and wearing sunglasses, according to complaint filed Monday in the Northern District of Illinois. He appears to be wearing pajamas.

An FBI special agent says Holloway then presented a note to the teller reading:

"THIS IS A ROBBERY. I WANT 20,000 IN AN ENVELOPE. NO DYE PACKS. NO SILENT ALARMS!! NO TRACK-ING DEVICE AND EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY. NO FUNNY BUSSINESS [sic]"

The teller immediately pushed the note back, told Holloway that they did not have any money in the drawer and told a fellow teller they were being robbed, according to the complaint. That teller then called 911, it said.

Having not received any money, Holloway began knocking on the teller's window for several minutes before leaving the bank and running away across the Southpoint Plaza parking lot, the FBI said.

The two tellers who had interacted with the suspect named by the F.B.I as Holloway immediately saw Evanston Police chasing in the direction he fled the bank, and they were later taken by Evanston Police to identify the suspect, according to the complaint.

Evanston Police caught up to and arrested Holloway on the 500 block of Keeney Street, where they say they recovered the same note described by the bank tellers with the same demand for "20,000" and "NO FUNNY BUSSINESS[sic]".

The F.B.I. says one of the tellers later identified the note as the one that had been shown during the robbery and the man as the same one that had attempted to rob the bank.

No weapon was used in the attempted robbery, police said.
