Fake Passport For Identity Thief; $7,000 Lost In Scam: Blotters

The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
GLENCOE
INCIDENTS
ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
Police are investigating a report that someone sent harassing emails to a Woodlawn Avenue resident prior to about 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 26.
JEWELRY THEFT
Several pieces of jewelry worth more than $10,000 combined were reported missing from a home in the 1100 block of Elm Ridge Drive on the afternoon of Feb. 4.

IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Lincoln Avenue resident reported on the evening of Jan. 27 that someone had used their identity in an unsuccessful attempt to buy a care in Tennessee. There was no financial loss at the time of the report.
- A Park Avenue resident reported on the evening of Jan. 30 that someone used their identity to open up a PayPal account. There was no loss at the time of the report.
- A Dundee Road resident reported on the afternoon of Feb. 3 that someone had used their identity to open up an account with People's Gas. There was no reported loss.
- A Linden Avenue resident reported on the afternoon of Feb. 3 that someone had unsuccessfully applied for several loans from Huntington National Bank. There was no reported loss.

NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
CORPORATE HARASSMENT
Security at the corporate headquarters of Medline Industries, 3 Lake Drive, reported the company had received "unwanted communication" from a Waukegan resident about the company's Waukegan facility. The company temporarily closed the facility last month because it was not in compliance with new state limits on the amount of a cancer-causing chemical it is allowed to emit. Security got police to tell the person not to contact the company anymore.
THEFT
A resident in the 500 block of Thornwood Lane reported around 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 24 that someone stole two sets of silverware at some point during the past five years.
IDENTITY THEFT
A Northfield Square resident reported on the afternoon of Jan. 29 that someone had used their identity to open up an account with Dish Network.
FRAUD
An Ingram Street resident reported getting scammed out of about $3,000 after placing a call to a number they believed was customer service for Amazon. The resident was calling about an unfamiliar charge, but wound up being convinced into sending several electronic bank transfers.
WILMETTE
INCIDENTS
PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 700 block of Leamington Avenue reported someone stole a package with a flashlight inside from their front porch on the morning of Jan. 8.
SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Bed, Bath and Beyond store at 3232 Lake Ave. reported that someone with a child in a shopping car stole a pair of Dyson vacuums around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 for an unspecified loss.
COMPUTER SCAM
A Pin Oak Drive resident reported falling victim to a computer scam around 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 29. First, a voice from the computer claimed their credit card and computer had been compromised. It demanded $7,000 in various gift cards in order to prevent more fraud using their account, and the resident provided the scammer with the money requested.
HOME BURGLARY ATTEMPT
A resident in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard reported that someone tried to break into their home between 11 a.m. on Jan. 30 and 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 2.
STOLEN CAR, RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
A garage door opener taken between 2 and 3 a.m. on Feb. 4 from an unlocked car in the 1000 block of Seminole Road was used to open an attached garage. Burglars got into both cars parked in the garage, stealing the one that was not blocked by a car parked in the driveway. The stolen car was later found by Wilmette police in an unspecified south suburb.
CAR BURGLARIES
- Someone burglarized an unlocked car in the 300 block of Vista Drive between 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 and 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 28.
- A purse, wallet and cash were stolen from an unlocked car in the 2200 block of Birchwood Avenue between 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 and 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 28.
- A doorbell camera captured images of someone entering an unlocked car in the 2900 block of Hartzell Street at 3:49 a.m. on Jan. 28.
- Someone stole cash from inside three unlocked cars between midnight and 5 a.m. in the 300 block of Hibbard Road.
- Two unlocked cars were burglarized in the 700 block of Park Drive on Jan. 26 or Jan. 27, with cash stolen from inside.
- A resident of the 200 block of Valley View Drive reported someone burglarized their unlocked car without stealing anything between 7 p.m. Jan. 27 and 9 a.m. Jan. 28.
- A resident in the 700 block of Lavergne Avenue reported that someone burglarized their unlocked car between 2:30 a.m. and 3:05 p.m. on Jan. 28, stealing cash from inside.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Kenneth H. Townsend, 59, of the 600 block of 11th Street, Wilmette, was arrested around 1 p.m. on Jan. 31 and charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence. Police reported pulling him over for a minor traffic violation before he failed field sobriety testing and an officer found suspected heroin in his possession.

INCIDENTS
DISORDERLY CONDUCT
Someone sent text messages containing what police described as inappropriate data to a cell phone in the 400 block of Winnetka Avenue between 10 a.m. on Jan. 24 and 2:15 p.m. on Jan. 25.
FORGERY
Staff at the McDonald's, 858 Green Bay Road, reported someone used a counterfeit $5 bill to buy something.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A resident in the 400 block of Green Bay Road reported that someone used their identity to get a passport and a credit card before withdrawing more than $5,000 from their bank account.
- A resident in the 300 block of Green Bay Road reported someone used their identity to open up a checking account and unsuccessfully tried to make cash withdrawals. The thief also changed the phone number linked to the resident's cellphone service provider.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Yashica C. Greene, 42, of the 1600 block of East 82nd Street, Chicago, was arrested around 11 a.m. on Jan. 23 at the Winnetka Police Department and charged with identity theft in connection with an incident reported on Aug. 2, 2019.
