Man Falls To His Death From Luxury Hotel In Loop

Police are investigating after a man fell from the roof of the LondonHouse Chicago hotel.

CHICAGO, IL -- A 44-year-old man fell to his death from the LondonHouse Chicago hotel Monday, according to police. He landed on a roof of the hotel's 6th floor around 3:30 p.m. The man has been identified as Eric Paul Janssen of Memphis, Tennessee, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

According to CBS 2, Janssen was taking photographs on a ledge before he fell. The hotel said he did not have permission to take the photos.

Janssen was pronounced dead around 3:50 p.m., according to police. Officers said his death appeared to be accidental. (For more local news, subscribe to free email news alerts and a daily newsletter for your hometown Patch.)

In a statement, the LondonHouse hotel offered condolences to Janssen's family, and said it's assisting Chicago police with the investigation.

Janssen's Instagram account shows he often took photos of urban architecture, city skylines and abandoned buildings.

In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, a friend of Janssen's said he was a father of three who was dedicated to his job as a vice president for the Sandusky Newspaper Group.

Parts of Wacker Drive were blocked off near the hotel after the fall while police investigated.
