Newsstand Fire Causes Evacuation of Ogilvie Center
The small blaze was extinguished by the building's sprinklers Sunday night.
CHICAGO, IL — A small fire at a newstand in the Ogilvie Transportation Center was extinguished by sprinklers in the building Sunday night, according to The Arlington Cardinal.
No one was hurt in the fire, which broke out at about 8:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, on the second floor of the 43-story commercial building and Metra terminal at 500 W. Madison St., the report stated. Although the minor blaze was doused quickly, firefighters from the Chicago Fire Department still evacuated people from building, according to traffic reporter Bill West.
Firefighters were using fans throughout the building to clear the smoke and ventinlate the interior, The Cardinal reports.

The fire did not cause any Metra delays because passengers could use other entrances to the lower train platforms, according to the Chicago Tribune. Some CTA buses, however, were rerouted because of the large fire department presence, the report added.
