Over 10 Inches Of Snow Possible For Chicago Area Tuesday
Plus, a look at snowfall totals from the past 24 hours.

A lake effect snow warning will remain in effect through 4 p.m. today for DuPage, Cook and Lake counties. Between 5 to 10 inches of snowfall is likely with isolated amounts greater than 10 inches possible, according to the National Weather Service.
In addition, a lake effect snow advisory has been issued for Will County also through 4 p.m. Tuesday.
An initial band of snow was expected to end over DuPage County and Lake County shortly after daybreak Tuesday, but a second band of heavy snow will move south over the area this morning. That snowstorm will likely continue over southeast Cook County into this afternoon.

Will County could also see snowfall into this afternoon east of Interstate 57 where 3 to 6 inches of snow is possible, according to the National Weather Service.
Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible during the height of the storm on Tuesday, making travel hazardous or impossible at times.

“Accumulations will vary significantly due to the nature of lake effect snow with some areas in the warning likely only getting a few inches, particularly over western Lake County and western DuPage County, which will likely see quite a bit less with the second band of snow later this morning and afternoon,” according to the National Weather Service.

Blowing and drifting snow is also possible during the storm, which will reduce visibility and contribute to dangerous travel conditions.
Crashes were being reported across the Chicago area Monday night and Tuesday morning. At least 35 cars were involved in a crash, which sent seven people to area hospitals, on the inbound Kennedy expressway at North Avenue Monday night.
