The girl died at Comer Children's Hospital, and her family has launched a GoFundMe for funeral costs while authorities detail the suspect's prior violent incidents.

2. UChicago Medicine plans $328M lab facility and expanded job training with City Colleges on the South Side (chicagotribune.com) — UChicago Medicine plans a $328 million lab facility in Washington Park that will consolidate pathology labs, support about 550 jobs, and improve testing for patients across Chicago. Partnering with City Colleges, a new Malcolm X College learning center next door will train up to 800 students a year for clinical lab tech jobs, with a community meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. on Garfield Boulevard.

3. Chicago set to approve largest police misconduct settlement in its history (nbcchicago.com) — Chicago's City Council is expected to approve a record $260.8 million police misconduct settlement tied to former detective Reynaldo Guevara, with payments spread over two years. Aldermen say settling 17 wrongful conviction cases now could save taxpayers more than fighting each one, even as questions remain about the innocence status of a few plaintiffs and the large share going to attorneys.
