St. Louis Man Accused of Attacking Students on Elementary School Playground

Tasewell Dugger, 49, also is accused attacking a school administrator during the incident Tuesday, Chicago police say.

CHICAGO, IL — A St. Louis man faces battery charges after being accused of attacking several students Tuesday on the playground at a Gold Coast elementary school, according to Chicago police.

Tasewell Dugger, 49, was charged with four felony counts of aggravated battery of children younger than 13 and misdemeanor criminal trespass. His next court date is Thursday.

According to police, Dugger entered the playground at Ogden International School, 24 W. Walton St., at about 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7. He then allegedly attacked four students between the ages of 6 and 7, as well as a 45-year-old woman who is an administrator at the school, police said.

Officers arrived at the scene, and Dugger was taken into custody. The attack victims were treated at the scene for minor injuries, police said. Police did not indicate why Dugger allegedly attacked the playground.

After the attack, school officials said they will keep the school gates shut during class hours and have at least one staffer there during recess.
