More Than $1M In Property Stolen From Gold Coast Home: PD (patch.com) — Chicago readers are learning about a major Gold Coast burglary where more than $1 million in jewelry, handbags, watches, and other luxury items were taken from a home on East Scott Street. After weeks of investigation and video review, Chicago police arrested 45-year-old Quentin Jones on felony theft and residential burglary charges, while continuing to search for additional suspects and asking the public for tips.

Students receive free rides on CTA, Metra and Pace for first day of school (nbcchicago.com) — If you have a Chicago Public Schools student, they can ride CTA, Metra, and Pace for free on the first day of school, along with one accompanying adult. After that, new NITA-backed funding keeps student fares at 75 cents with free transfers, as long as kids use a student Ventra card obtained through CPS, vending machines, or the Ventra app.
   

3. Police warn residents of late-night armed robberies in Bronzeville, Lake Meadows (suntimes.com) — Chicago police are warning Bronzeville and Lake Meadows residents about a string of late-night armed robberies where suspects demand and steal unlocked phones. Incidents on East 32nd Street and South State Street happened earlier this month, and detectives are urging vigilance, quick reporting of suspicious activity, and tips referencing case number P26-1-070.
   

4. Gov. Pritzker Announces Appointments To Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA) (riverbender.com) — State leaders in Chicago have named the first board members of the new Northern Illinois Transit Authority, which will oversee CTA, Metra, and Pace and replace the RTA. With a reappointment to the Chicago Transit Authority board and cross-appointments across agencies, the move aims to modernize service, coordinate fares, and protect transit funding for more than a million daily riders.
   

5. Chicago's Ukrainian-Americans celebrate Ukraine's Independence Day amid Russia's ongoing war (abc7chicago.com) — Chicago's Ukrainian Village came alive Saturday night as Ukrainian-Americans gathered to celebrate Ukraine's Independence Day with traditional music, food, and games while war continues back home. Local community leaders thanked Chicago neighbors and U.S. taxpayers for ongoing support, stressing how American aid and solidarity help Ukrainians resist Russia's invasion and maintain hope despite recent deadly attacks.
