Veterans Day 2017: What's Closed, What's Open In Chicago

CHICAGO, IL — Veterans Day, always on November 11, falls on a Saturday this year. Many government offices and agencies are observing the holiday on Friday, November 10. Here's a look at which services, institutions, and businesses will be available on Friday and Saturday.

What's Open? What's Closed for Veterans Day?

City Government: City Hall and city offices will be closed Friday and Saturday. County, state and federal government offices will be closed both days as well.

Schools: Since Veterans Day falls on a Saturday this year, it doesn't affect Chicago Public Schools, and all CPS schools will be open on Friday.

Chicago Public Library: All branches will be open Friday and Saturday.

Chicago Park District: Offices will be closed Friday and Saturday, but most parks will be open and operating on a reduced holiday schedule. The conservatories in Garfield Park and Lincoln Park will be open. Go to the district's website for more information.

Postal Service: Post offices will be open Friday but closed Saturday. Mail pickup and delivery are on normal schedules.

Banks: The majority of banks—such as JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Citibank—will be open Friday but closed Saturday.

CTA and Metra: Trains and buses for the transportation agencies will be running on normal schedules Friday and Saturday.

Retailers, Restaurants, Bars and Other Businesses: Most will be open both days, as the period around Veterans Day has become a time for discounts and special offers. Check hours ahead of time.
