Video Shows Security Guard Attacked On Mag Mile

Groups of teens are continuing to cause trouble on the Magnificent Mile. A video shows a security guard being attacked in the area.

CHICAGO — A cell phone video has been posted on YouTube that shows teens fighting with a security guard on the Magnificent Mile. The video, obtained by CWB Chicago, was taken from inside the McDonald's at 10 East Chicago Avenue.

Two teens attack the man and slam him against the restaurant wall. One of the attackers then picks up what appears to be pepper spray, and the guard frees himself and pulls out a gun. The guard points his gun at the attackers and they run away.

It's unclear when the video was taken, but it was posted after police said that nearly two dozen people were arrested Saturday in and around Mag Mile after disturbing businesses, fighting and disrupting traffic. The groups causing trouble were mostly teens, and were warned to leave the area or they would be arrested, according to police.

According to the CWB report, one of the people who was arrested was only 11 years old, and a 15-year-old girl was arrested for trying to punch a police officer.

A yogurt store manager said a crowd of at least two dozen teens raided their store, CWB reported.

The Chicago Police Department has cracked down on groups of teens causing trouble in the area after a group of up to 50 teenagers attacked people and disrupted local businesses late last year. This is the first "mob" activity of this year.

Following last year's mayhem, Water Tower Place instituted a policy that teens 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult after 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The policy appears to be working, authorities said, and police are focusing their efforts on the streets.
