CHSD170's Lincoln-Gavin School Becoming a K - 4 Facility for the 2015-16 School Year

Budget Cuts; Small Class Sizes Affect the School

Chicago Heights School District 170 has announced that Lincoln-Gavin School will become a Kindergarten through Fourth Grade facility beginning in August 2015.

Students who would have been enrolled in grades five through eight at Lincoln-Gavin will now be attending Jefferson School. School District 170 will provide transportation services for all affected students.

The change in the school’s student body make-up is a result of financial constraints due to significant budget cuts in education by the State of Illinois, and of diminishing enrollment at the school.

“We evaluated the situation very carefully before arriving at this decision,” said School District 170 Superintendent Tom Amadio.

“When all factors were considered, especially the draconian cuts to education and the student enrollment figures, it was decided that the move to a K – 4 building would best serve the needs of both the Lincoln-Gavin School service community, and of our school district.”
