Crete Public Library Now Offers Convenient License Plate Renewals

The Crete Public Library is pleased to now offer Illinois license plate sticker renewals as a service for the Illinois Secretary of State's Office. In just a few minutes, we can process your renewal and provide you with a new sticker.

To renew your sticker, bring in your Illinois Vehicle Registration Card or Renewal Notice, which includes your registration ID, PIN, license plate number, and renewal date. If you do not have your registration card or renewal notice, you may simply bring your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You can find your VIN on a sticker attached to the windshield on the driver’s side. At this time, vehicle insurance information is not necessary but may be required in the future by the State of Illinois.

There are two parts to the costs associated with renewing your plates at the Library. The first part is the fee charged by the State of Illinois for the renewal sticker. This fee is based on your specific vehicle and should be noted on your renewal notice. Standard passenger vehicles currently cost $151, but personalized, vanity, electric vehicle, trailer, motorcycle, or other specialty plates have varying costs. The second part is a $9.50 service fee per sticker. This fee covers the Library’s cost to the vendor with whom we contract for the service. Show your Crete Public Library card and the service fee will be just $5. Payments can be made with cash and credit or debit cards. Personal checks are not accepted.
