Guests at PSC Foundation 'Vintage Vegas' Special Event Will 'Bet on PSC'
To provide financial assistance for PSC students, the PSC Foundation is hosting its annual scholarship fundraiser on Saturday, March 7.
Each year hundreds of Prairie State College (PSC) students turn to the PSC Foundation for assistance paying for tuition, fees and textbooks. To provide financial assistance for PSC students, the PSC Foundation is hosting its annual scholarship fundraiser at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 7, at the Olympia Fields Country Club, located at 2800 Country Club Drive in Olympia Fields.
This year’s theme is ‘Vintage Vegas,’ with cocktails and dinner followed by entertainment, featuring local musician Peter Oprisko, and classic casino games.
The annual special event is held to raise money through donations, dinner reservations, and a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit student scholarships at PSC. Special “Starlight Scholars,” a current scholarship recipients, will be highlighted at the event during the annual “Stand Up for Scholarships” presentation.

“We are delighted to be hosting another special event to help the deserving students of Prairie State College,” said Foundation Executive Director Deborah Havighorst. “Last year, the event raised $30,000 for student scholarships, and we hope to meet or even exceed those numbers this year,” she added.
In addition to supporting students through scholarships, the Foundation also supports student activities by granting special funding requests. Among the most recent was a research project at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, conducted by PSC students under the leadership of Physical Science/Earth Science and Geology Professor Lee Anne Burrough.

The students presented their findings to the PSC Foundation Board of Directors at their recent meeting, and their findings had a profound effect on the directors.
“The Indiana Dunes are right in our backyard, and these students’ findings have taught me so much about what a typical visitor to the dunes can do to prevent further damage to this national state park,” said Foundation President Tim Woloszyn of MB Financial Bank. “The Foundation is proud to be able to offer our students the opportunity to do meaningful research.”
