Heights Library Lists Services

Chicago Heights Public Library wants everyone to know about its wide range of available services.

First of all, of course, the library offers an extensive variety of both new and classic titles to check out. And if a book isn’t part of the library’s collection, it usually can be borrowed from a partner library. E-books are available for online checkout 24 hours a day using the free Libby app you can download to your devices. And books are just the beginning.

Next, the library offers a wide range of both fun and educational programs for both kids and adults. These are all listed on the library’s website and Facebook/Instagram pages. Chicago Heights residents are mailed a quarterly newsletter to help stay current on the library’s offerings.

Additionally, a variety of computer and office services are offered. These begin with use of their computer lab, as well as inexpensive printing, both color and black-and-white. Also, patrons can scan documents to digitally save or email them at no charge. Even fax service is available at a nominal cost.

Notary services are also offered at the library. There is no charge, but you should call first to check availability.

The library’s local history collection contains extensive documents, images, and memorabilia that can be viewed in the Barbara Paul History Room, as well as in exhibits throughout the building. Local immigration records, many dating back to the 19th century, are also stored there. The library also has a subscription to ancestry.com. No appointment is necessary to view any of the collection or records.

Finally, while there’s nothing wrong with Google, the library retains its importance as a reference center. Hundreds of databases, covering everything from academic subjects to consumer and automotive information, are available through the library,
