Monica Gordon Wins Big in the 5th District

(Cook County, Ill.) — Monica Gordon, 5th District Cook County Commissioner-elect, won big last Tuesday, taking nearly 90% of the vote against her challenger. Monica will be sworn in on December 5, 2022, replacing retiring Cook County Commissioner Deborah Sims, who is leaving the post after 28 years.

Monica Gordon, who also serves as Secretary of the Prairie State College Board of Trustees and was elected as Bloom Township Democratic Committeeperson in June, issued the following statement today:

“I am humbled by the results of this year’s Midterm Election. My team and I have worked hard for the last year, making calls, knocking doors, and learning about the concerns of the 5th District. I am proud of the work we have done and can’t wait to see what coming months and years hold for the 5th District.

“I would like to thank all my supporters for the time and energy they have spent working tirelessly to support this endeavor. It has been an amazing adventure, however, the real work begins now. My next task is to ensure the 5th district is well-represented. After taking office, I am committed to being the hardest working commissioner in Cook County. My work ethic and dedication to the district will be indisputable.

“I am looking forward to being a diligent public servant. I have spent a great deal of time learning about the wants and needs of the district, such as health care, mental health initiatives, social services, infrastructure, public safety, and small business development, and I am devoted to ensuring that these needs are met expediently. I will do what it takes to ensure that the 5th district has equitable representation on the Cook County Board.”
