Prairie State College recently hosted the 2015 Healthy Smiles Day on campus. Healthy Smiles Day provides children from a local elementary school with free dental care. During the event, the PSC dental hygiene students and faculty saw 84 children, ranging from first through eighth grade, providing each with a cleaning and the state dental exam, and placing 182 sealants. In private practice, the day’s services would cost approximately $14,700. The exams are done by a supervising dentist. With the event, all PSC dental hygiene students were able to complete their graduation quotas for working with pediatric patients and applying sealants.
