South Chicago Heights Man Accused Of Handing Out Candy In Weed Bags

A 27-year-old man has been charged with child endangerment following the incident Halloween night, WGN reports.

SOUTH CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A South Chicago Heights man was arrested and charged with child endangerment after allegedly handing out Halloween candy in bags previously used for marijuana, WGN reports.

Parents called police Halloween night after finding their children with unlabeled bags of gummy bears that they claimed smelled of marijuana, WGN reports. Children pointed out to parents where they had received the candy, according to the report.

Jared Feilen, 27, of the 200 block of Cherry Lane, reportedly told police he handed out the bags after running out of Halloween candy and deciding to fill up the previously used bags with gummy bears. The bags were passed them out to children ages 8, 10 and 11 years old, according to the report. He was charged with five counts of child endangerment.

"You could smell marijuana off of the packages," South Chicago Heights Police Chief Bill Joyce told WGN, and a drug-sniffing dog alerted to the packages immediately.
