Southland College Prep Students Earn Academic Accolades
Contribute to School Being Only Charter High School in State to Earn Exemplary by Illinois State Board of Education for Five Years
MATTESON, ILL.—January 30, 2024— Southland College Prep Charter High School continues to prove that its rally cry of "excellence is the expectation," is a reality.
During the school's recent annual CEO luncheon, Dr. Blondean Y. Davis, Southland College Prep's CEO, awarded 38 straight A students Golden Apples and honored 91 CEO scholars who have a 4.0 or higher GPA in the first semester at the event in the Holiday Inn Chicago Conference Center, Matteson, Illinois.
"The hard work of our students that led to these significant academic accomplishments most certainly contributed to Southland College Prep being the only charter high school in the state to earn the designation of exemplary for five years," Davis said.

The exemplary designation means that Southland performs in the top 10 percent of the 644 high schools statewide with no underperforming student groups.
"At Southland, we believe all children can learn with the proper support and resources," Davis said.

"But is is equally important that every student finds a school that is right for them, which our college admissions team does so well," Davis said.
Currently, more than 90 percent of the 134-member class of 2024 has already been accepted to colleges and universities, Dr. Davis added.
Four of the seniors who attended the luncheon earned a cumulative total of more than $1 million in four-year full scholarships to top universities from the QuestBridge National College Match Program.
Seniors Isaiah Adegoye, Nehemiah James, Danielle Mambo and Eriyana Woolfolk were selected among 2,242 finalists out of 20,800 applicants to earn full four-year scholarships, including room and board, books and supplies, fees and travel expenses with no loans to the University of Chicago, Rice University and Vanderbilt University.
"These QuestBridge awardees are extraordinarily dedicated and focused students. The program connects high-achieving high school seniors with scholarships to the nation's top colleges, provides unlimited potential and unlimited possibilities for these talented young people," Dr. Davis added.
