Deputies Shoot, Kill Man During Domestic Violence Call
A shooter open fired at deputies and they fired back early Tuesday. The deputies were responding to a domestic violence complaint.
PORT BARRINGRTON, IL — The two deputies involved in the fatal shooting of a man during a domestic violence call in Port Barrington early Tuesday have been placed on paid administrative leave.

Two deputies fired back and the shooter, who has not yet been identified, was hit and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. One deputy had been with the McHenry County Sheriff's Office for 1 year and the other had been there for 5.5 years, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

"In accordance with department policy, both deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation by an external entity," according to the news release. The McHenry County Major Investigation Assistance Team will be investigating the shooting.
Neither deputy was injured.

The woman suffered a graze wound that is not considered life-threatening and was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, ABC Chicago reported.
Neighbors told ABC 7 the family had been renting the home where the shooting occurred for about two years and had two young children. Neighbor Fernando Ramirez said one of the kids went to school with his son.
"Sad for the family, sad for the kids," he said. "I feel really bad for the kids."
