A Lake County and McHenry County school district are being investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice as part of a probe meant to determine whether they are teaching lessons related to sexual orientation and gender identity. The probes, led by the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, will examine whether 36 different school in Illinois included such material in coursework and how it was implemented, DOJ officials announced last week. As many malls throughout the U.S. have faced closures in recent years,a recent study looks at shopping centers in Illinois that are at risk of falling into financial distress. Among the malls is one in Lake County, which received a C+ from Green Street. Green Street is a real estate information company that assigns letter grades to malls around the country, which is based on factors, such as tenancy, foot traffic and estimated sales.
