1 Injured In Blaze That Destroyed Home

The Crystal Lake residence has been deemed a total loss, fire officials said.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL -- One person was transported to an area hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation in a blaze that destroyed a Crystal Lake home Monday night, fire officials said. Fire crews were called to the fire in the 300 block of Valhalla Circle in Crystal Lake at about 8:50 p.m. A resident who was first reportedly inside the residence when fire crews were on the way was able to safely get out by the time they arrived, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Fire/Rescue Department.

Firefighters first at the scene found smoke and flames coming from the home. The blaze was brought under control by 9:07 p.m., according to the news release.

One resident was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington to be evaluated for smoke inhalation, fire officials said.

The home has been deemed a total loss, according to the news release. The damage estimate for the structure and its contents is $250,000. Fire officials believe the blaze started near a wall outlet in the living room.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
