Coroner IDs Buffalo Grove Man Killed In Mundelein Crash

The two-vehicle collision occurred on Route 45 near Route 60 on Wednesday morning.

MUNDELEIN, IL — A man killed in a two-vehicle crash on New Year's Day in Mundelein has been identified as Richard Skloot, 56, of Buffalo Grove, authorities said. The collision happened when a Lincoln MKZ, which was driven by Skloot and headed north on Route 45 near Route 60, made a left turn in front of another vehicle at about 10 a.m. on Jan. 1.

The Chevrolet Silverado pick-up, which was southbound on Route 45, collided with the right side of Skloot's vehicle, according to a news release from the Lake County Coroner's Office. Skloot's vehicle was turning into the Burger King parking lot, at 1520 S. Lake St., when the crash occurred, according to the Daily Herald.

Skloot was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy revealed a preliminary cause of death was multiple injuries due to blunt trauma from a car crash, Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper said in a news release.
