1 Person Killed After Being Struck by Metra Train in Cary

The incident occurred at the railroad crossing at Three Oaks Road near Route 14.

One person is dead after jumping in front of a Northwest line Metra train in Cary, authorities said.

Authorities were called to the scene of the fatality at 5:09 p.m. on Tuesday. The person was found dead northwest of the railroad crossing at Three Oaks Road near Route 14, according to a press release.
Metra’s northwest line experienced delays following the incident.

While authorities investigated the fatality, a two-vehicle rollover traffic crash happened nearby at Route 14 near Westbury Drive. A 32-year-old Cary woman was cited for making an illegal left turn from Westbury onto Route 14, police said.

A large amount of fuel was spilled by one of the vehicles in the crash.

No one was injured in the crash.

Due to multiple incidents occurring simultaneously in the immediate area, police mutual aid
units were requested from Crystal Lake Police Department and Fox River Grove Police Department.
Westbound traffic for U.S. Route 14 was diverted at the intersection of Three Oaks Road. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office was requested to divert traffic traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 14 near Sands Road. Route 14 was reopened at 6 p.m.

The McHenry County Coroner is investigating the identity of the subject and making notification to the family of the victim.
