1 Taken To Hospital After Crystal Lake Standoff

A SWAT team was called to the apartment in the 200 block of Uteg Street early Thursday.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A SWAT team surrounded an apartment complex in Crystal Lake early Thursday after a man inside the residence threatened to hurt himself and refused to come out, authorities said. The Crystal Lake Police Department was first called to the apartment in the 200 block of of Uteg Street at about 1:40 a.m. after receiving a report of a man who was possibly armed with a knife and contemplating suicide.

Officers made contact with the man and offered to help him, but he refused their help. Local authorities then requested assistance from the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System Emergency Services Team, and a unit made up of officers from several police agencies responded, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department.

Shortly before 5 a.m., the man stepped out of his apartment and was detained before he was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation, according to the news release.

No one was injured in the standoff and no criminal charges are expected, authorities said.
