2 Crystal Lake Businesses Cited For Underage Tobacco Sales

Crystal Lake Police officers cited employees at a BP gas station and Smoke Depot during a random check for selling to people under age 21.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – Two Crystal Lake businesses were cited for selling tobacco to minors after the police department completed a random check of the businesses after receiving complaints of tobacco sales to customers under the age of 21.

Under supervision of the Crystal Lake Police Department, persons under the age of 21 entered the two businesses – BP gas station at 281 W. Virginia St. and Smoke Depot at 435 Angela Lane – and attempted to purchase tobacco products, police said in a news release.

As a result, clerks or employees of the two businesses did not appropriately check the purchaser’s identification which would have determined the customers to be underage and completed the sale, police said.
