Coroner IDs Crystal Lake Men Killed In Weekend Crash
The crash happened in unincorporated Nunda Township Saturday night.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL -- The two men killed in a McHenry County crash over the weekend have been identified, authorities said Monday. McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski said the driver, who was killed in the Saturday night single-vehicle crash in Nunda Township, has been identified as Allan Javier Sanchez Gamez, 31, of Crystal Lake. A rear seat passenger who was also killed has been identified as Timoteo Guzman Mejia, 33, of Crystal Lake, Majewski said in a news release.
An investigation revealed the crash occurred when a 2001 Ford Explorer heading south in the 1400 block of South Lily Lake Road went off the roadway and struck a tree at about 11:48 p.m., according to a news release from the McHenry Co. Sheriff's Office.
Gamez became trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene while Mejia was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Gamez died died from blunt trauma of the head and chest, according to the coroner's office news release. And an autopsy revealed Mejia died from blunt trauma to the head, chest and abdomen. Toxicology testing is pending.
A front seat passenger, a 23-year-old Crystal Lake man, was taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The front seat passenger and Gamez were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash but Mejia had not been wearing his seat belt. Airbags did deploy in the vehicle.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash.
