2 Dogs Saved From Fire, 1 Cat Dies: Authorities

Two additional cats were missing following the blaze in the 100 block of Eastview Avenue Saturday afternoon.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – Authorities rescued two dogs from a blaze at a Crystal Lake home Saturday afternoon but one cat was killed in the fire and two others are still missing, authorities said. The blaze, which fire officials believe started in the kitchen, left the home in the 100 block of Eastview Avenue uninhabitable. Firefighters were first called to the scene of the blaze at 1:23 p.m., according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.

When fire crews arrived on scene, they found smoke coming from the attic area of the residence. Two Crystal Lake Police Department officers were able to save two dogs from the blaze while firefighters doused the home with water, authorities said.

The dogs were treated for smoke inhalation with oxygen and released to their owners, according to a news release. No one who lived at the residence was at home at the time of the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Smoke and heat damage has left the home uninhabitable, authorities said. The estimated cost of damage to the structure and contents is $60,000.

No firefighters are police officers were injured in the blaze.
