49 Pounds Of Marijuana Found During Traffic Stop: Police

Bond has been set at $2 million for the California man pulled over in Fox Lake on Friday.

FOX LAKE, IL -- A traffic stop in Fox Lake ended with authorities seizing nearly 50 pounds of marijuana from a California man on Friday afternoon. Eusvaldo Valenzuela-Gaxiola, 39, of Tulare, California, was taken into custody on several charges after being pulled over on Route 59 in the area of Devlin Road at about 12:30 p.m. During the traffic stop, deputies reportedly smelled marijuana, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies searched the vehicle and found 49 pounds, or over 22,000 grams, of packaged marijuana, police said. The marijuana has a street value of $150,000, police said. Authorities also found cocaine on Valenzuela-Gaxiola, according to the news release.

Bail has been set at $2 million for Valenzuela-Gaxiola who was arrested and taken to the Lake County Jail. He was has been charged with cannabis trafficking, a class X felony; delivery of marijuana, a class X felony; possession of marijuana, a class 1 felony; possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 felony; and two traffic-related offenses.

Valenzuela-Gaxiola is next due in court on Aug. 28.
