50% Of COVID-19 Deaths Are In Nursing Homes In McHenry Co.

In McHenry County, at least 40 percent of all coronavirus cases are in long-term care facilities.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The new coronavirus has hit nursing homes across the country hard and McHenry County is not an exception to that rule. At least 50 percent of all deaths due to the virus in McHenry County are happening in long-term care facilities.

In total, 19 residents of nursing homes have died due to COVID-19 as of Friday, which is when the Illinois Department of Public Health released its most recent deaths and cases reported in long-term care facilities across the state. As of Friday, 313 residents in nursing homes were sickened by the virus.

If that case count remained unchanged,which is unlikely, the total number of nursing home cases to date would amount to about 40 percent of the total cause count, which is 790 cases, as of Tuesday.
