72% Of McHenry Co. COVID Deaths Are In Nursing Homes: IDPH

As of Friday, 60 of the 83 residents who have died from the new coronavirus live in long-term care facilities in McHenry County.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Nursing homes have been among the congregate settings hardest hit by coronavirus outbreaks and deaths in the past two months. And McHenry County nursing homes are no exception.

As of Friday, 60 nursing home residents in McHenry County have died because of COVID-19, which accounts for 72.3 percent of the total virus deaths to date the county, according to Illinois Department of Public Health statistics. And of the 10 nursing homes where two or more cases have been reported, two — Crossroads Care Center in Woodstock and Sheltered Village in Woodstock — have closed their doors, according to the IDPH's most recent update on nursing home cases, which was posted Friday.

To date, 333 nursing home residents have contracted the coronavirus while there have been a total of 1,733 COVID-19 cases in McHenry County, according to IDPH statistics. The stats for total COVID cases also includes "probable cases."

Alden Terrace of McHenry has been the hardest hit by COVID-19 cases in McHenry County. As of Friday, there were 78 confirmed cases and 11 deaths. The long-term care facility remained open as of last week.

Meanwhile, Cross Roads Care Center, which is among the facilities that has closed, has had 69 confirmed cases and 12 deaths. And Sheltered Village in Woodstock and The Fountains at Crystal Lake has seen a high number of residents dying from the virus. The Fountains, which remained open as of Friday, has had 40 cases and 12 deaths while Sheltered Village, which has closed, has had 41 cases and nine deaths, according to IDPH.
