CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — COVID put the brakes on the popular trolley tours in Crystal Lake, but members of the Crystal Lake Historic Preservation Commission are ready to bring the tours back.

During a recent meeting, members of the commission discussed pricing and possible routes as well as a theme for the tours, which they hope to reboot in the spring of 2023, according to the Northwest Herald. The tours may look to highlight Sears kit homes built in the city, and the trolley route could go past a dozen different models, commission member Diana Kenney told the Northwest Herald.

Sears kit houses became a popular option in Crystal Lake in the 1920s due to the proximity of the city to a train line since the kits could be shipped via train and then hauled to the properties, Kenney told Patch in September.
