CRYSTAL LAKE, IL —A McHenry County judge has decided the home where AJ Freund was allegedly killed by his parents can be torn down. The single-family home at 94 Dole Avenue has served as a sad reminder to the community of Crystal Lake of the death of the 5-year-old boy who authorities say was put in a cold shower and then beaten to death this past April.

On Wednesday, McHenry County Judge Kevin Costello found Andrew Freund, Sr., the owner of the home and AJ's father, and other defendants in the case in default, according to the Daily Herald. The city filed the lawsuit and the ruling will allow for the home to be torn down.

The home can't be torn down until Dec. 12 at the earliest and city officials will determine how to move forward with the demolition, according to the article.

The home fell into disrepair before AJ's parents, Joann Cunningham and Andrew Freund, were arrested on murder charges in April. After, public works crews were tasked with upkeep at the home and issued fines every time they made repairs at the home or mowed the lawn, according to media reports.
